Deacons Ministry

1 Timothy 3:10-13: "And let these also first be proved, then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless. Even so must their wives be grave, not slanders, sober, faithful in all things. Let the deacons be the husband of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well. For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus."

As men, ordained and appointed, the mission of the Deacon Ministry is to serve as helpers of the Pastor with the fullness of the Holy Spirit and Wisdom. As Deacons, we minister by fulfilling assignments and responsibilities as directed by the Pastor, contributing to the spiritual growth of the congregation through leadership and example. As Deacons, we have a sincere love and appreciation for our Pastor, obedience to the Word of God, and fervent prayer.

What we embrace as part of the qualifications of the Office of a Deacon can be found in the Bible. Aside from the Biblical/ Spiritual aspect of what it means to be 'A Deacon,' we have also adapted a formal exam & ordination process in which the 'Deacon Designate' or 'Deacon In Training' is formally trained by both the Pastor & other Deacon's to pass the formal exam given by the called council. Deacons are those persons of First Baptist Church of Huntington who have been ordained to nurture and strength families in the Lord. The work of the deacons is an extension of the Pastor’s ministry to love and care for families and to service as ministers of mercy to the congregation. Deacons are also involved in the administration of two ordinances of the church, namely Baptism and the Lord’s Supper, Holy Communion. The purpose of the deacons is to serve the Lord by conducting the caring ministry of the church, doing the work of benevolence, visiting the sick, being alert to the spiritual needs of the congregation, supports the Pastor, support the vision of the ministry, participDeacons are those persons of First Baptist Church of Huntington who have been ordained to nurture and strength families in the Lord.
