The mission of the Music Ministry is to lead the congregation through the portals of praise into the presence of God for worship. Through an array of music: anthems, traditional hymns and modern gospel music, we use our voices and musical instruments for celebration, praise and worship: all for the glory and honor of God. This ministry seeks passionately to change people’s lives by expressing the Word of God through music, which is a priestly function that we take very seriously. There are currently 3 functioning capacities of our music ministry:
" 10These also are the chief of the mighty men whom David had, who strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom, and with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of the LORD concerning Israel. " - 1st Chronicles 11:10
What We Do
The Men Of Valor Empowered Men's ministry of First Baptist Huntington shares experience, testimony and talent to help support the spiritual and educational needs of men. We provide a warm and friendly fellowship for men to feel comfortable, welcome and willing to relax, be themselves and have fun with Christian men of like minds.
"29 “Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all. 30 Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised." - Proverbs 31:29,30
The mission of the Women’s Ministry is: To encourage spiritual growth through discussion around a topic, using the Word of God as our major reference. To provide a time for Christian women, 18 years of age & older, to gather and share experiences. To exercise our spiritual growth and love through serving others. In 2011 at the request of Rev. Jackson, the name was changed from First Baptist Women's Ministry to "Women Worth More" using Proverbs 31 as a scriptural reference.
"For a day in your courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness." -Psalm 84:10
The mission of the Usher Ministry is to be obedient to God’s Word by being faithful servants of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As individuals we will serve in a way that it is obvious to all we meet and greet that we are servants of God. Our service should exhibit a spiritual wisdom and joyful attitude that reflects our knowledge that it is a privilege to serve, and not a burden. We care for the needs of the congregation at the Pastors request, and remain attentive to the needs of worships during service. Our individual service should attract others to our Ministry which will result in personal spiritual growth as well as membership growth for our Ministry. We are not limited to age, only willingness to serve, and hearts filled with gladness and the joy of the Lord.
'Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.' -1st Corinthians 4:2
The mission of the Trustee Ministry is to be faithful stewards of God’s household. While following the will of God and Pastor’s vision, Trustees keep the Church and other properties decent, in order and pleasing to God. Trustees prayerfully make decisions to utilize available resources for completion of tasks based on sound business practices. Although Trustees are mandated by government, we at First Baptist Huntington embrace the office of a Trustee as a sacred office of the church to be held by those trustworthy, dependable and capable individuals. Trustees depend upon the congregation for information and action that will assist in assuring that the appearance, maintenance and function of the Church are used to glorify God and expand His Kingdom of believers.
"According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:" -Ephesians 1:4
S.W.A.G. Stands for "SAVED. WILLING. (and) ANOINTED. (by) GOD. We believe that each young person is born with purpose and destiny...CHOSEN BY GOD! Serving God is not a matter is age, but its a matter of AVAILABILITY!
The mission of the Deaconess Ministry is to meet the needs of the First Baptist Church of Huntington, under the spiritual guidance of its Pastor and the Deacons by promoting the spiritual growth in the church.
1 Timothy 8:11 - "Even so must their wives be grave, not slanders, sober, faithful in all things."
The purpose of the Deaconess Ministry is to care for and assist the needs of the overall congregation. Wherever there are sick and shut-in members as well as members in need of prayer, the Deaconess Ministry will be there to help. They will be in contact with all sick members and monitor the prayer list to ensure that members are not alone. They are responsible for the preparation and setting up Holy Communion on the first Sunday of each month. The Deaconess should instruct all female baptismal candidates as to what they are suppose to wear. Although Deaconess do not have to pass a formal exam, we believe that the standard for Deaconess do not vary due to gender.
1 Timothy 3:10-13: "And let these also first be proved, then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless. Even so must their wives be grave, not slanders, sober, faithful in all things. Let the deacons be the husband of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well. For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus."
As men, ordained and appointed, the mission of the Deacon Ministry is to serve as helpers of the Pastor with the fullness of the Holy Spirit and Wisdom. As Deacons, we minister by fulfilling assignments and responsibilities as directed by the Pastor, contributing to the spiritual growth of the congregation through leadership and example. As Deacons, we have a sincere love and appreciation for our Pastor, obedience to the Word of God, and fervent prayer.
